The Verkhovna Rada has not yet received the bill on election of the People´s Deputies of Ukraine drafted by the working group set up on order of the President of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made the foregoing statement in the interview to "Vid Pershoyi Osoby" program (Era Radio).
V. Lytvyn reminded that numerous bills on elections had been registered in the Parliament. Moreover, the Electoral Code has received a positive feedback from the Venice Commission.
According to the Head of the Parliament, "It is groundless to claim that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is procrastinating." He advises against hasty adoption of election bills. "However, an appropriate bill shall obviously be adopted at least 6 months before the elections. If the bill was adopted now, the deputies would stop working and would ponder over the ways to stay in the Verkhovna Rada for the next term", V. Lytvyn admitted.
